ECOLOGY

Air transport has a considerable influence on the environment, especially at the airport and its surroundings. Therefore CSA has endeavored through various means and procedures, to find solutions to make its individual activities more environmentally-friendly. The most frequently monitored areas remain: monitoring of noise, water management, air protection and waste management.

Thanks to continuous follow-up on the results of noise monitoring, as well as careful evaluations of the observance of anti-noise procedures, a downward trend in the number of noise limit violations at Prague Airport continued in 1997. These limits are set at 58.0 dB during the day and 75.0 dB during the night. Replacement of TU-134A aircraft with new B737 with lower noise and emission levels has also had a very positive impact.

In the fields of water management and air protection, CSA primarily focused on the monitoring of the quality of waste water, the condition of the management of water supply devices, technology to decrease the quantity of polluting materials and adherence to legislatively set emission limits. The resulting measurable parameters then indicated a year-to-year improvement in the majority of monitored indicators.

After the Czech Airport Authority introduced the operation of surface water cleaning, the appropriate standard of the management of water supply at Prague airport was ensured. In the course of 1997 no operational event occurred which could have endangered the quality of surface or underground water.

CSA also paid attention to waste management. Czech Airlines arranged for the direct sorting of selected types of waste and all commodities of dangerous waste at their sources. CSA cooperated with external organisations when liquidating waste.
