One of the most significant changes CSA underwent in previous years was the modernisation of its fleet. In 1997, three new Boeing 737-500 aircraft enlarged the CSA fleet. CSA's fleet then came to consist of 25 aircraft. In December 1997, CSA took three TU-134A aircraft out of service. So at the end of the year, two Airbus 310-300 aircraft (produced in 1991), with special comfort amenities on board for 209 passengers, were operating on CSA routes. Boeing 737 aircraft are the backbone of the fleet. CSA operates two versions of the B-737: two Boeing 737-400 (produced in 1991) and eight Boeing 737-500 (five produced in 1992 with three leaving the factory in 1997). Boeing 737 aircraft are specifically used on European and Middle Eastern routes. The total number of aircraft includes four ATR 72 aircraft (produced in 1992) and two ATR 42 aircraft (produced in 1996) which are used on short regional routes. Four Russian Tupolev 154M are dated from 1988 to 1990, and since 1998 have only been used for charter flights. The average age of the fleet after taking the TU-134A aircraft out of service in December 1997, is about five years, placing CSA amongst the youngest airline fleets in the world.
