n 1998, CSA offered regular connections to 38 countries and
54 cities in Europe, |
| North America, the Middle East, Africa and
Asia. A total of 1 801 826 passengers travelled on CSA flights over the year, which
represents a year-to-year increase of 3.9 %. CSA transported 1 606 183 passengers on
regular flights (a growth of 11.8 %), while 195 643 passengers used charter transport (a
year-to-year decrease of 31.4 %). |

| Passengers showed the greatest interest in regular flights on European
routes. Here, the share of transported passengers reached 81.7 % of entire regular
international transport. The territory of Western Europe had a share of 57.2 % of
passenger transport, where Eastern European flights contributed 24.5 %. The North American
continent added another 129 800 passengers (8 %) to the total number of regular transport,
and the Middle and Far East recorded 163 838 passengers - 10.2 % of the total. London tops
the scale for the number of transported passengers according to destination, followed by
Moscow, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Budapest, Frankfurt, Madrid and Tel Aviv. |
| Total available transport activity, stated
in available passenger-kilometres, showed a year-to-year increase of 1.2 %, while regular
international transport reached a growth of 7.8 % in the same indicator. In regards to
territorial classification, available transport activity showed the highest increase in
the area of the Middle East (17.5 %) and the European continent (13.1 %). Irregular
transport showed a decrease. |
| Although the utilisation of seat capacity
fell in comparison with 1997, from 66.8 % to 66.3 % in 1998, regular international
transport showed a growth in this indicator from 64.9 % to 65.1 %.The highest increase in
recorded flights was in the territory of Western Europe (from 55.6 % to 58.8 %).Total
utilisation of weight capacity reached approximately the same level as in 1997, only a
slight decrease from 56.9 % to 56.8 %. Regular international transport however, showed a
growth from 55.3 % to 55.9 %. |
| In 1998, CSA transported 11 875 tonnes of
cargo and mail, which represents a year-to-year increase of 14.2 %. |
